The client had an old DOS based software which saved their sales and related data in an indexed file. All kind of data records and indexes were stored in only one file. Although the system serves its defined purpose satisfactorily, they wanted the data stored in that file to be available in other windows based software such as Excel etc or any other custom GUI application running under MS windows using SQL statements.

Hence a solution was developed using MySQL which is the world's most popular Open Source Database, designed for speed, power and precision in mission critical heavy load usage. The source code of MySQL was modified in such a way that instead of reading data in its own format it would read data from the indexed file.
